November 2003

MSLA Minutes from the November 20, 2003 Board Meeting

1.  The meeting was called to order by Jay Coleman
2.  The October 2003 minutes were approved.
3.  The Treasurer's Report Was presented by Ren Pettinelli with all information available on the website.
4.  Regular Reports
  A) High School Women’s Division (sanctioning for Girls) petition filed for amendment.  58 signatures of principals for MSHSAA requirements.  Plans are to present at the January meeting.
  B) US Lacrosse – Guidelines are being set up by Ren Pettinelli for designation of all-stars.  Also, there is a concern regarding players playing for teams but not attending the team’s school.  More information to follow.
  C) MALOA Per Bob Schulte – MALOA has approved the proposed budget which will be the same as last year.  Last year, coaches were required to attend a referee meeting and it was proposed the same requires apply this year.  Motion was approved, date will be determined.  MALOA will be obtaining an addition 62 rule books and tests.
5.  Old Business
  A) Who will have freshman teams this year has already been determined.
  B) All star game in St. Louis (has a decision been made?) Decision is still in process.  One additional concern is player housing which might require home players to house out of town players.
  C) Scheduling Meeting (Dec 6th, DeSmet High School 10:30)  All teams are required to be there.
  D) Dates: Next meeting (January 15, 2004) bring fee money.  Varsity $350 JV $100, freshman $75.
6.  New Business
  A) Springfield Team – No contact from them.
  B) Discuss Player Transfer From Columbia Rockbridge to Columbia Hickman – This will be taken up by the rules committee.  Any thoughts could be sent directly to the rules committee.
  C) Items for members – MSLA will pay fees for head coaches only to join US Lacrosse.  Registration can be on-line.
  D) Additional information: Discussion regarding the difficulty of the referee coordinator to schedule referees when teams cancel or reschedule games.  It was determined last year that the reschedule and/or changes were to be approved by MSLA board or a fine would be applied.  Mr. Faber will try to structure a fee to be applied on any team rescheduling and/or changing games from the original schedule.
Additional teams include St. Thomas Aquinas in the Kansas City area which will go with the far west division and Chaminade which will replace Eureka.
Craig Hurst asked if the MSLA was interested in playing games in the Missouri Show Me Games July 30th through Aug 1st. A decision had to be made by 12/31/03.  It was decided MSLA would wait until next year.
The referee jamboree has been set up for March 6th in St. Louis and March 7th in Kansas City.
** The next meeting will be held on Thursday January 15, 2004.
